11-Day Rwenzori Trek & Photography Uganda Safari
Safari Overview
The Rwenzori Mountains — Ancient Egypt's Mountains of the Moon — form the highest range in Africa outside of the volcanic massifs. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, these mist-shrouded peaks span the Uganda–DRC border and host a biological wonderland: 217 bird species (19 Albertine Rift endemics), giant tree heathers, enormous lobelias, and everlasting flowers (Helichrysum) towering over your head. This 11-day trek ascends to the summit of Margherita Peak (5,109 m) — Africa's third-highest point — via the Kilembe circuit, returning via the Lake Mahoma route for unmatched photographic diversity across every altitude zone.

Photography Tips

The Rwenzoris are notoriously overcast — maximise shooting in the brief morning clear windows (6:00–9:00 AM). Giant lobelias and groundsels photograph best with a person for scale — 24–35 mm f/8 on a tripod. The Elena Glacier at sunrise is one of Africa's most dramatic alpine scenes. Protect gear from high humidity with silica gel in every camera bag.
